With Dr. Catriona Steele

Professor Catrional Steele, is the Director of the Swallowing Rehabilitation Research Laboratory at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network. Professor Steele also holds an appointment in the Graduate Department of Speech-Language Pathology, Rehabilitation Sciences Institute  at the University of Toronto. Prior to completing her Ph.D., Professor Steele worked as a medical speech-language pathologist for 10 years.

Session Objectives:

1. To be able to describe current information regarding the impact of stroke lesion size and location, including posterior circulation and brain stem stroke, on swallowing function. 

2. To understand current information regarding the benefits of early post-stroke screening for dysphagia. 

3. To be able to describe the level of evidence available regarding interventions for dysphagia post-stroke.
